British Columbia-based teen author S.S.Segran launched her debut novel AEGIS RISING on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Old Mill Boathouse in Port Moody. The science-fiction story which chronicles the journey of five teenage protagonists who are cast into a life-altering adventure in northern Canada has won rave reviews from advance readers across the globe. The author also launched Aegis League, a non-profit she has set up to provide resources to help youths explore their potentialPort Moody, British Columbia, December 2, 2013 Three years in the making, AEGIS RISING was launched at an event attended by the Honorary Consul for Barbados in BC, Mrs. Marilyn Moseley, and the Honorary Consul for Jamaica in BC, Mrs. Wilma Bennett-King. Other special guests included Colonel R.C. Moody and his wife Mary Moody (Rev. David Spence and Donna Otto). Mayor Mike Clay who was unable to attend due to pressing family matters sent his congratulations and best wishes to the author and invited her to a future Council meeting to present her work during the Art at Council segment. Attended by about one hundred guests, the event included speeches by Mrs. Moseley, Colonel Moody and the author. Among the highlights of the event was the premiering of a theatrical-styled trailer of the novel. Both hardcover and paperback versions of the book were sold out before the end of the event as guests briskly purchased signed copies of the novel. The four-hundred and fifty page novel is the culmination of an idea from the author as a grade seven student at the Moody Middle school. When asked, how it all got started, she replied, Ive been a keen reader from a young age. However I definitely did not think Id actually write a novel. I guess the first telltale sign was when I was seven or eight and I would try to write extensions to the final chapters of books that Id read because I didnt want them to end. Then when I was about twelve or thirteen, I came up with an idea for a story where five friends get washed up on the shore of an island after a freak storm separates them from their families while on a boating trip. There were talking animals in it. It didnt get very far! But it established a sort of groundwork for what evolved to become Aegis Rising. The talking animals didnt make it out of that island, but I did find a way to bring some really cool creatures into this novel.About the Author.
